Dr. Metcalfe is a faculty member at Florida State University College of Communication and Information. She conducts research in trusted human-computer interactions, active cyber defense, cyber forensics, specifically involving the issues of cyber insider threats, deepfake, image manipulation, and automated detection of computer-mediated deception. Her patent (U.S. Patent 11,714,970) on the systems and methods for detecting deception in computer-mediated communications was issued by USPTO on August 2023. She designs interactive systems as an experiment protocol for investigating human deception and betrayal in virtual organizations. She also designs active cyber defense exercises in simulated environment that provide interactive opportunities for students to respond to incidents. Dr. Metcalfe founded the iSensor Analytics Lab in 2010, a virtual space to conduct research experiments revolving around human factors in cyberspace. She teaches doctoral seminars in information science and information systems research in organization and society, and courses in cybersecurity (intro, advanced and organizational information security) at the School of Information. She has encompassed over 20 years of professional experience in the field of cybersecurity.
